Converse Receives SC Humanities Grant for Art Series
Thanks to a South Carolina Humanities grant, Converse has debuted the Art History Lecture Series.
The Art History Lecture Series began in November 2023 and will take place throughout the 23-24 academic year, welcoming four art historians from the Upstate of SC to present their research at Converse. Their lectures investigate an artist or artistic movement’s social, cultural, or political significance.
Open to the public, this four-part lecture series will allow guests to build connections with Upstate art historians while acquainting Converse art history students with the conventions of discipline-specific research.
The Converse University School of the Arts inspires, teaches, and trains artists by fostering communication, creativity and scholarship.
Converse’s Art History Lecture Series is made with the support of South Carolina Humanities. The mission of South Carolina Humanities is to enrich the cultural and intellectual lives of all South Carolinians. This not-for-profit organization presents and/or supports literary initiatives, lectures, exhibits, festivals, publications, oral history projects, videos and other humanities based experiences that reach more than 250,000 citizens annually. South Carolina Humanities receives funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities as well as corporate, foundation and individual donors. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of community leaders from throughout the state.
